Fire Departments and First Responders
Tactical ventilation includes the control of smoke and fire gases leaving the fire compartment and their replacement with fresh air. Controlling both of these aspects saves lives and reduces property loss.
The SmokeStopper is an easily deployed, unmanned device that limits the air flow to an uncontrolled fire, reduces fire spread, blocks smoke and improves the tenability and suppression effectiveness.
Why SmokeStoppers?
LIMIT OXYGEN TO THE FIRE
Multiple studies from NIST and UL show the influence of fresh air flow on fire development with modern day fuel loads. The SmokeStopper reduces or completely blocks the air flow to the fire, limiting fire growth.
CONTROL FLOW PATHS
The SmokeStopper provides a means for temporary flow path management, improving the rescue profile, reducing the threat to firefighters and limiting property damage.
REDUCE THE RISK OF FLOW PATHS
Not only does the SmokeStopper limit air flow to the fire, the air that does flow under the curtain is significantly less turbulent than the air flow that would occur through a wide open bi-directional opening. This improves the speed and efficiency for firefighter entry through the opening and towards the seat of the fire.
PROTECT ESCAPE ROUTES
SmokeStoppers reduce or eliminate the flow of smoke and contaminants into hallways and corridors easing firefighter access and the safe evacuation of civilians. This is key in multi-residential occupancies where protection of stairwells and corridors provides a significant tactical advantage.
STOP SMOKE CONTAMINATION
The SmokeStopper minimizes damages by confining smoke and contaminants to the fire compartment, reducing the time and costs associated with recovery from the fire incident.
PREVENT SMOKE FROM BURNING
Minimizing air entry into the fire compartment reduces the risk of flammable gases in the compartment dropping beneath their upper flammability limit and igniting.
EASY AND QUICK DEPLOYMENT
Deployment of the SmokeStopper is easily achieved by one person and does not require extensive training.
ENHANCE POSITIVE PRESSURE VENTILATION
The SmokeStopper can be used to reduce the size of the openings during post-fire control PPV Operations thereby increasing the pressure and effectiveness of the fan to remove smoke and contaminants.
